The madrassa students, led by Syed Faizul Karim, Naib Amir of the Bangladesh Islamic Movement, and Mamunul Haque, Acting Secretary General of the Khilafah Majlis of Bangladesh, staged a protest procession from the north gate of the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque. They chanted anti-sculpture slogans in protest after Friday prayers on Friday (November 26). When the police obstructed the procession, the students became involved in a dispute. At that moment the police dispersed the students. Seven or eight people were detained from the procession and taken to the Ramna police station.
According to the students, an organization called Muktiyuddha Mancha had recently made offensive comments about Faizul Karim and Mamunul Haque and burned their effigies. Students from different places came to Baitul Mukarram to protest against the incident. But the police stopped them.
Ramna (investigation) model police station inspector Zahirul Islam told the Bengali Tribune: When we stopped and asked them about their demands, they attacked the police without giving a response. Then we scatter them. At the time there was no leader to talk to.
Ramna police SI Mamun told the Bengali Tribune: “Seven or eight people have been arrested and taken to the police station for obstructing the work of the government. They will be published after verification and selection.
