The Facebook authorities of social media have brought a case against a Bangladeshi man named SK Shamsul Alam seeking compensation of $ 50,000 (Tk 44 lakh).

On Sunday, SM Ariful Islam, a lawyer appointed on behalf of Facebook, filed a case against him under Sections 98 and 96 of the Trademark Law and Section 151 of the Penal Code for assigning a domain name of Facebook.com .bd to Facebook.com. At the same time, the case has sought a permanent ban on the domain.

The matter will be heard in Dhaka District Court and Session Judge Shawkat Ali Chowdhury on December 1.

According to the source in the case, a Bangladeshi company called ‘A One Software Limited’ opened a local domain called ‘Facebook.com.bd’. After that, Facebook authorities may know that the domain will sell for $ 7 million. Facebook authorities later sent a notice to BTCL and related organizations to stop him. They did not close the domain even after sending the notice. Instead, the person announced the sale of the domain.

Previously, the Facebook authorities sent a notice via SK Shamsul Alam through a lawyer to assign a BTCL domain under the name Facebook.com.bd.
