Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh said that inter-district buses will no longer be able to enter the Dhaka metropolis. Buses in the capital will be operated by 22 companies on 42 routes.

He said this at the thirteenth meeting of the committee entitled ‘Rationalizing the bus route’ to bring order to public transport and reduce traffic congestion at Nagar Bhaban’s Buriganga Hall on Tuesday at noon.

During the meeting, the mayor said that the buses will drop off passengers at the designated inter-district bus terminal in the border area of Dhaka city and that the buses will depart for their intended destination. He thinks this will reduce traffic pressure in Dhaka City.

The mayor of DSCC also clarified the question of how long-distance passengers can go to different destinations in the capital. He said that after unloading passengers at designated interdistrict bus terminals in the city’s border areas, passengers will travel to their destinations by city service or MRT or service provider vehicles from those terminals. This will reduce traffic pressure in Dhaka City to some extent. Hopefully “bus route rationalization” activities can be brought to a visible level over the next year.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation expressed his opinion by joining the meeting online. Atiqul Islam.

Among the committee members present at the meeting was DMP Police Commissioner Moha. Shafiqul Islam, President of BRTA Nur Mohammad Majumder, President of BRTC. Ehsane Elahi, President of RAJUK. Saeed Noor Alam, Secretary Member of the Bus Route Rationalization Committee and Executive Director of DTCA Khandaker Rakibur Rahman, Secretary General of the Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association Khandaker Enayet Ullah and others.
