CID DIG Mainul Hasan said the culprits would be identified and a report issued in connection with the explosion at the Baitus Salat Jame mosque in the Fatullah west floor area in Narayanganj. He also reported on the nature of the investigation. He said this while visiting the site at noon on Saturday (September 12). The case is being investigated with the utmost professionalism, the official said.
Responding to a question from journalists, CID DIG Mainul Hasan said: “Initially it was thought that the explosion was caused by a leak in the gas pipeline. The mosque had two power lines. One of them is valid and the other is invalid. Also This problem will be studied. It will also investigate if there are any defects in the mosque where it was built. The CID will prepare a final report after observing the reports of the investigation committees of the five agencies formed in the incident. Those who will be found guilty in this incident will be brought under the law and a report will be submitted soon.
He said: “The CID police have been conducting a shadow investigation since the incident. It has collected many signals. The forensic department will examine the evidence and speak with local people and witnesses as soon as possible to identify the cause of the blast and bring those deemed negligent to justice.
He was accompanied by the Additional CID DIG Imam Hossain, CID Narayanganj SP Nasir Uddin, Assistant Superintendent of Police. CID police officials, including Harun-ur-Rashid, investigator in the case, Inspector Babul Hossain.
During Esha prayers on September 4, six BC exploded at the Baitus Salat Jame mosque in the area of the west floor of the Fatulla police station in Narayanganj Sadar Upazila. Thirty-seven people burned in the accident have been admitted to the Sheikh Hasina Institute for Plastic Surgery and Burn in Dhaka and 31 have died so far. Five are still being treated there. One has been discharged from the hospital.
One day after the explosion, the Fatullah police filed a case. The case was turned over to CID police last Thursday for further investigation. Five separate investigative committees comprising the district administration, the fire service, Titas, DPDC and Narayanganj City Corporation are continuing their investigation into the incident.
