The wife of an expatriate (40) has been accused of raping a 40-year-old woman in Gazipur’s Kaliganj for taking Tk 6 lakh to buy land and threatening to kill her only son. The victim’s housekeeper filed a case Friday night.

Defendant Faruk Hossain, 45, the son of the late Fazr Ali Sheikh from Khaikra Konapara village in Kaliganj, has fled since the case. Locals said that many people were accused of embezzling thousands of rupees in the name of overseas shipping, including a murder case against land broker Farooq.

According to sources in the case, Farooq took Tk 6 lakh from a housewife, a resident of the same village in Khaikra, in 2006 to buy land. But without buying the land, Talbahana started. At one point, Farooq threatened to kill her only son at different times, taking the housewife hostage and taking her to different places and raping her against her will.

Farooq entered the house for the last time on the night of September 24 and forcibly raped the housewife. Later, on October 22, around 7:45 p.m., when the housewife went to perform ablution for the Maghreb prayers, Lumpat Farooq offered to have sex. Unable to agree, Farooq grabbed her hair and tried to rape her. At that moment, the housewife screamed and her son left, but Farooq cut both their throats and threatened to kill them.

The investigating officer in the case, Kaliganj Police Station Inspector (Operations), Mozammel Haque, said Farooq has been on the run since the case. An attempt is being made to arrest him.
