Expat Wife Rape Accusations Against Awami League Leader

Golzar Hossain, 38, deputy general secretary of the Awami League zonal union in Baraigram upazila de Natore, borrowed money from his expatriate wife. The woman filed a rape case against Awami League leader Golzar Hossain on Wednesday night. Police arrested the defendant Golzar Hossain overnight. The victim’s wife’s house is in the Rampur village of Haripur junction in Chatmohar upazila of Pabna.

Citing the case, Chatmohar Police Station Officer in Charge (CO) Aminul Islam said that a young man from the Upazila village of Rampur migrated to the Middle East two years ago in search of livelihoods. He used to send all his income to his wife’s account. Golzar Hossain, a resident of Nazirpur village in the neighboring Natore district, had been making bad proposals to the woman at different times. At one point he fell in love.

Then he recorded his conversations and some weak moments on his mobile phone. They were then shown to the expat’s wife and threatened with social degradation. In this way, he blackmailed the woman and raped her more than once. Golzar also kept photos of the rape secret. In showing those photos, he grabbed money from the expat’s wife saying that she had borrowed more than five lakhs of rupees sent by her husband.

The CO further said that he took 5 lakh 20 lakhs from the housewife on behalf of the loan. But it continued to delay to return the money. The woman’s husband recently returned to the country. Unable to account for the money to her husband, his wife said that a man named Golzar Hossain had borrowed money.

Then, on October 2, he went to the woman’s husband, Golzar Hossain, and demanded a refund. Golzar hit him instead of giving him money. The village referee sat down on Wednesday to seek justice for the incident. Shalis’s housekeeper said everything openly. Then the issue of rape came to light. In this, the arbitration was canceled without any solution.

Later on Wednesday night, the housewife brought a rape case against the leader of the Awami League, Golzar Hossain, at the Chatmohar police station and the police arrested her overnight.

Tozam Uddin, president of the Natore Parishad Zonal Union and senior vice president of the Awami League union, confirmed Golzar Hossain’s party title. However, he said the organization was not responsible for his personal misdeeds.

Chatmohar OC Aminul Islam Police Station said the arrested Golzar Hossain would be sent to jail through court on Thursday.
