Calling for the removal of the word “martial law” from the military dictionary, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said it could not bring any good to the country or the armed forces. The prime minister said this while addressing a meeting of the Electoral Board of the Armed Forces-2020 on Monday. He participated in the meeting by connecting with the Army Headquarters, Naval Headquarters and the Dhaka Cantonment Air Force Headquarters via videoconference from Ganobhaban.
Sheikh Hasina said: ‘Martial law cannot bring any welfare to the country and the armed forces without bloodshed. Therefore, we should remove the word martial law from the military dictionary.
Referring to the 19 queues during the military rule of Ziaur Rahman, the prime minister said: “During the rule of the military dictator Ziaur Rahman, so many officers and soldiers of the armed forces have died that not so many soldiers have died in the war.” We (in the armed forces) do not want to hear the cries of any more orphaned son or fatherless son ”.

They are a symbol of our freedom and sovereignty. Our goal is to make this force more modern and up-to-date, and we are working towards that goal. “
Addressing the senior military officers of the Armed Forces Board, Sheikh Hasina said: “All of you senior officers have met at the Armed Forces Electoral Board. I have enough confidence in your wisdom, your judgment, your justice. I would request that in all of these cases, the appropriate officers rise above personal likes and dislikes to get the promotion. You will give this promotion with a neutral attitude on the basis of justice, so that trust enters everyone. I know that many are suitable, not all can be given. Because the term is limited. Even after that, you should see that those who are really suitable get a promotion.
Referring to the modern methods used for promotion in the Armed Forces, the Prime Minister said: “You decide by comparing the skills of those who are eligible for promotion through the modern method of promotion of the officers of the Armed Forces, namely , Tabulated record of follow-up and comparative evaluation “. At the same time, you have to make sure that you not only get high marks on the ledger, you have to judge those who can do well in the field, command or lead, or who have the ability to make quick decisions. ‘
Advising that patriotism and belief in the spirit of the liberation war be taken into account in promoting the armed forces, the Prime Minister said: ‘We have liberated this country in exchange for the blood of millions of martyrs, the blood of martyrs not can be released in vain. Sheikh Hasina said: “You must consider officers who have managed to provide competent leadership in various activities of military life. That is what I want. And for any officer or officer to be promoted, their professional quality must be taken into account, your qualifications and skills, you will prioritize it.
Advising on the importance of discipline-honesty-fidelity with efficiency, he said: ‘Since it is an orderly force, those who will be promoted into this orderly force must be able to maintain order at all times. Because discipline is the backbone of all the institutions of our armed forces. So those who are discipline-conscious enough, loyal; Since they will be loyal to those at the top, they will be accountable to their subordinates. We have to analyze this issue, we have to be understanding and responsible with them as well ”.
In the context of the country’s development, the Prime Minister called on everyone involved to spend only the most urgent expenses while eliminating the least necessary expenses.
