The Minister of Welfare for Expatriates and Employment Abroad, Imran Ahmed, said the expected response did not come even after conditions were relaxed due to the low number of applications for special loans for rehabilitation. He said: ‘The government has taken various initiatives for expatriate workers returning to the country under the influence of Corona. They have been provided with a fund of Tk 600 crore. We want the entire 600 million rupees to go to the expatriate worker or their family.
The expatriate welfare minister said this at a national migration sector stakeholder consultation meeting at a hotel in the capital on Sunday. The meeting was jointly organized by the government’s Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) and the non-governmental organization BRAC.
Imran Ahmed said: ‘Kovid is an unexpected epidemic all over the world. All sectors have been affected. Recruitment agencies, including governmental and non-governmental organizations, various development agencies and international organizations, must be brought together under one umbrella to address the crisis in the immigration sector caused by Kovid. Only then will we be able to achieve the desired development of this sector by approaching Kovid effectively. The Expatriate Welfare Minister said expatriate workers should think about what they will do when they return to the country.
