The High Court has fined Etihad Airways 2 million rupees as compensation for harassing, torturing and detaining two Bangladeshi nationals at the Abu Dhabi airport nine years ago.
The High Court has ordered to pay two rupees crore as a fine to two Bangladeshis Tanjin Brishti and Nahid Sultana Yuthi. Payment of the money has been requested within 60 days of receipt of the verdict.
The law was partially granted by the Justice. The Ashraful Kamal High Court and Judge Rajik-al-Khalil delivered the verdict on Thursday.
The lawyer Manzil Morshed was in favor of the judicial request in court. He was assisted by the lawyer Ripon Barai and the lawyer Sanjay Mandal. Lawyer Ajmalul Hossain QC and Md. Etihad were in favor of the country manager. Aziz Ullah Emon.
Lawyer Manzil Morshed told reporters that a judicial petition was filed in the High Court against the Etihad authorities for harassing / torturing / detaining two Bangladeshi nationals at Abu Dhabi airport on June 26, 2011. On June 14, July of that year, the National Court issued a rule ordering the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to investigate the incident and present a report. The verdict was scheduled for today (Thursday) after a lengthy rules hearing. In the verdict, the High Court ordered Tanjin Brishti and Nahid Sultana Yuthi to pay 1 million rupees in compensation and within 60 days after receiving the verdict.
