Many European countries have closed all borders with the UK as new strains of the coronavirus spread. As a result, the UK has been virtually cut off from Europe. Tight lockdown is in place in the UK to prevent infection. Italy, Spain, Germany, Denmark and France have already imposed restrictions on public gatherings in various ways. International media hint that those who have not yet announced the shutdown will do so soon.

When asked, Fazlul Haque, managing director of Plummy Fashions in Narayanganj, said the situation is getting more and more complicated every day. New purchases have decreased. Buyers are not negotiating the purchase order. Buyers are delaying shipping of ready-made garments for two to three weeks. He said that the Christmas holidays have started in Europe. It is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving office.

The countries in Europe that have been hit by the second corona wave are the big markets for garments made in Bangladesh. According to the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), Bangladeshi entrepreneurs exported ready-made garments worth confe 479 million to Germany in the last fiscal year 2019-20. It is the second largest garment export after the United States. In addition, in the last year, garments worth £ 318 million were exported to the United Kingdom, £ 202 million to Spain, £ 156 million to France, £ 119 million to Italy and £ 820 million to Denmark.
