Tabibar Rahman, 65, the son of Samar Uddin from Ghatiarpara village in Panchagarh Sadar upazila, is the oldest of five siblings. On August 1, 2011, he accepted a job as a temporary field assistant at the Tunirhat branch of Agrani Bank with a daily attendance of Rs. In 2015, their daily attendance increased to 750 rupees. As such, he receives a salary of 13 to 14 thousand rupees per month.
But in a few years, Tabibar’s wealth has increased. His neighbors say Tabibar has bought 18-20 bighas of land in recent years. He has built a house in the village at a cost of 30 to 35 lakh rupees. Also, you have made a lot of money anonymously.
According to some people from the village of Ghatiarpara, Tabibar was a salesman for a cigarette company before landing a job in a bank. His father, Samar Uddin, worked for others. From time to time he would drive the truck. His younger brother Habibur also drove the truck. Another brother, Dulu, used to drive a rickshaw in Dhaka.
However, Tabibar assures that his father has around 8 bighas of land according to ancestral sources. In addition, he has mortgaged 8 bighas of land. 2 bighas of government land khas have been allocated. They have bought another 3 to 3 and a half bighas of land.
According to the Undersecretariat of Tunirhat, Balam Ghente, Tabibar bought around 10 bighas of land between 2016 and 2020 in the area around his house. The market value of these lands is over 30 lakh rupees.
Deveshwar Roy, a member of Kamat Kajaldighi Union District 5, said that the Tabibar family was very poor 8-10 years ago. But in recent years, they have changed dramatically.
