Embezzlement of government money, arrest of Token Tagore

Token Tagore received a grant from the government to make a film entitled ‘Kanta’. But he did not send the film on time. The Ministry of Information had filed a lawsuit against the poet and director Token Tagore for embezzlement of government funds.

Police arrested him at a rented house on Elephant Road in the capital around 8pm on Sunday.

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Newmarket Police Station, Sham Qayyum, confirmed the information to reporters around 9:30 pm.

He said: ‘There was an arrest warrant against Token Tagore. That’s why we arrested him around 8 tonight. Now he’s at the police station. It will be sent to court tomorrow morning.

SI Milon from the Newmarket Police Station, which was involved in the operation to arrest Token Tagore, said Token Tagore was arrested in a six-story apartment at 225/1, Elephant Road.

Poet and producer Token Tagore received a grant to make a film titled ‘Kanta’ in the 2012-13 financial year. The poet and producer was supposed to be the first film director based on the Shahidul Zaheer story.
