Students have blocked the Nilkhet crossing to demand the cancellation of the decision to suspend all ongoing exams at seven government universities in the capital affiliated with Dhaka University (DU).

Hundreds of students blocked the Nilkhet-Newmarket crossing at 7:30 pm Tuesday and began to stir. At this time traffic stopped on both sides.

Junaid Siddiqui, a third-year student at the troubled Dhaka College, told The Daily Star: “On the one hand, we are affiliated with the University of Dhaka and we are in session. Meanwhile, the Corona epidemic has set us back a year. The exams have started recently and some universities are taking third and fourth year exams, meanwhile it has been decided to postpone the exams again. We do not accept such an irrational decision.

He said: ‘Hall-campus is closed. Due to the tests, we returned home from the epidemic. I already have a lot of problems. If we make such a decision in a few days, we will face more financial problems. The authorities have to think of us.

After today’s lockdown, the students said they will lock down Nilkhet’s shift again tomorrow at 9am with the same demand.

A meeting of DU authorities with the directors of seven universities tonight decided to suspend all ongoing examinations of the seven affiliated government universities.
