The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has detained eight Titas officials and employees arrested in connection with the terrible explosion at the Baitus Salat Jame mosque in the western part of Fatullah in Narayanganj for two days. After arresting the eight from different areas of Narayanganj on Saturday morning, they were brought to court in the afternoon for further questioning and in pre-trial detention for five days. After an argument between the two parties, the court of Senior Judge Kauser Alam granted them a two-day pre-trial detention. CID Inspector and Investigative Officer Babul Hossain confirmed the matter to Kaler Kantha. Previously, on September 6, the Titas Gas Authority suspended eight officials and employees for negligence in the mosque explosion.
The persons arrested are Sirajul Islam, Managing Engineer, Titus Gas Transmission and Distribution Company, Fatullah Region, Mahamudur Rahman Rabbi, Deputy Director, HM Hasan Shahriar, Assistant Engineer, Manik Mia, Assistant Engineer, Munibur Rahman Chowdhury, Senior Supervisor, Munibur Rahman Chowdhury Boss.
Before dispatching the detainees, CID DIG Mainul Hasan told a press conference at the Narayanganj CID office on Saturday afternoon that they were arrested in different areas of Fatulla in Sadar upazila yesterday morning. “Eight Titus officers and employees, who were temporarily expelled in connection with the mosque explosion, were arrested on the basis of evidence of negligence,” he said. He added: ‘The investigation of the case is ongoing. If the mosque committee is deemed negligent, they will also be arrested.
Incidentally, 36 people were burned in a terrible explosion at the Baitus Salat Jame mosque in Fatullah on September 4, of which 33 have died so far. In addition, three people are in ICU treatment in critical condition. Only one of the injured has recovered and returned home.
