Regarding the reopening of educational institutions, the Minister of Education said: “Many parents do not want to send their children to school in the Corona situation. Therefore, the government is emphasizing continuing education alternatively in this situation.

“Our education sector is at risk due to the ongoing global epidemic,” he said. Educational institutions have been closed for a long time, which has led to the possibility of some students dropping out of school. Child marriage and child labor can increase. Many students are suffering financially.

Noting that the achievement of quality education is being hindered, the Minister of Education said: “Despite all the preparations, it was not possible to take the 2020 HSC exam due to Corona. Completing the study program is now a big challenge, as there are no formal classes for SSC and HSC candidates in 2021. Also, in the case of technical education, it is not possible to take practical classes online.

Referring to the challenges of the education sector in Corona, the Minister of Education said: “Our children are suffering from various psychological problems due to the closure of educational institutions for a long time. Digital technology has helped us meet various challenges in the education sector in Corona. Two weeks after the announcement of the closure of the educational institution, secondary education activities began through parliamentary television. Online education activities continue at the secondary and higher education levels. Even then, about 10 percent of our students are out of education. 10 percent is a much larger number than the total number of students. We don’t want to leave any student behind. ‘

UN Resident Coordinator Mia Seppo and UNICEF Country Representative in Bangladesh Tomo Hozumi were also present.

During the meeting, Mia Seppo praised Bangladesh for launching educational activities and online classes through parliamentary television in a short period of time.
