Police arrested his former brother-in-law Jamirul in connection with the death of Islamic University (IU) student Ulfat Ara Tinni in Shailkupa upazila of Jhenaidah. He was arrested in the city of Magura on Tuesday night.
Jhenaidah Additional Police Superintendent Anwar Saeed confirmed the matter and said that Jamirul was fleeing elsewhere, after which the police took positions in Magura city. He was arrested late at night in a store in the town of Magura. He was later arrested in a case brought by Tinni’s mother under the Prevention of Abuse of Women and Children Act.
Tinni is the youngest daughter of the late freedom fighter Yusuf Ali from the village of Sheikhpara in Shailkupa upazila of Jhenaidah. I was studying in graduate class at the Department of Accounting and Information Systems at Islamic University (IU). On the night of October 1, her family rescued her from her home in the town. Later, the doctors declared him dead.
Quoting the locals, the Officer in Charge (CO) of the Shailkupa Police Station, Jahangir Hossain, told reporters the next day: “Tinni used to live in a rented house with her mother and sister Munni. Around 11 p.m. Thursday, her sister’s ex-husband, Jamirul, went there with three or four people and got into a fight. At one point, Jamirul smashed the valuable furniture in the house and went to Tinni’s bedroom and insulted her. After stalking Jamirul, Tinni committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling.
Tinni’s cousin, Makhleshur Rahman, said Tinni’s older sister Munni married Sheikhul Bazar businessman Jamirul. Munni and Jamirul broke up because they were not getting along. But Jamirul was desperate to get Munni back. For a long time, he had been chasing his two fatherless sisters on several occasions.
Makhlesur Rahman said Jamirul and his men attacked Munni’s home around 10 p.m. Thursday and returned. After a two-hour break, Jamirul returned to the house around midnight and tortured Tinni. 10 minutes after Jamirul’s departure, Tinni continued to hang her veil with her fan. He was rescued and taken to Kushtia Medical College Hospital. The doctor declared him dead.
Older sister Munni claims that her younger sister was killed in a planned way.
Munni complained that what Jamirul had done to Tinni on the second floor of the house was that in just 10 minutes I saw the body of my newborn sister hanging with a fan. She complained: ‘It is a premeditated murder. She committed suicide because she did something bad to my sister.
Tinni’s mother, Halima Begum, said: ‘My daughter is very talented. BCS was preparing for the exam. On the night of the incident, Jamirul was threatened as he was returning home after a bride’s wedding in Kushtia. Later, Jamirul came to the house and destroyed it. We suspect that Tinni was killed after being brutally tortured.
