Boalmari Police Station OC Aminul Islam said the incident took place in the village of Ramdia at the Satair Upazila union around 8:30 pm on Tuesday.

According to the locals, every year a temporary pavilion with a tin fence is built in the Durga Puja public mandapa in Ramdia Karmakar Para. This time also all the preparations for the puja were completed like that. Around 8:30 pm on Tuesday, some local youths entered the mandapa and broke the heads of the Durga and Saraswati idols built on the occasion of the cult.

Suresh Chandra Karmakar, president of Ramdia Karmakar Para Public Durga Puja Mandap, said the painting of the idol was completed last Saturday. After painting, the tin fence pavilion on three sides is covered with cloth.

“At night, those in charge of the maintenance of the temple go to eat. Unidentified terrorists smashed the idol and fled.

The OC told reporters that the police had arrested two young men, Nayan Sheikh, 20, and Raju Mridha, 26, on suspicion of vandalism in a night raid and that a case had been filed for the incident.

Faridpur Puja Celebration Parishad, said Parishad Secretary General Arun Mandal, Deputy Commissioner Atul Sarkar and Police Superintendent Md. Alimuzzaman have been informed.
