The program began at the foot of the TSC Raju sculpture around 8pm on Thursday, as no one was arrested even two weeks after the rape case was brought up. At that time some of his companions were also seen staying there. The student has announced that he will continue this program until the accused are arrested.
“I am very helpless today,” he told reporters. In the end, I had to go on a hunger strike for justice. The rapists roam in public but are not being arrested.
“My hunger strike will continue until the accused, including Hassan Al Mamun and Nurul Haq Noor, are arrested.”
On September 21 and 23, the student filed two cases against Nurul Haque Nur and his five accomplices under the Law on Prevention of Abuse of Women and Children and the Law on Digital Security at the Lalbagh and Kotwali police stations in the capital by charges of rape, kidnapping and murder of character through social media.
The main defendant in the first case was Hassan Al Mamun, a graduate of the Department of Islamic Studies, who had previously been the convener of the Student Rights Council. Nazmul Hasan Sohag, the organization’s joint coordinator, became the main defendant in the second case.
In addition, Saiful Islam, joint coordinator of the organization along with Nurul Haque Nur, Nazmul Huda, vice president of the Dhaka University branch and Abdullah Hill Baki were also charged.
Her ‘love affair’ with Hassan al-Mamun developed because of the student’s comments, reading in the same section and working for the Student Rights Council. Taking advantage of this, Mamun took her to his home in Lalbagh on January 3 of this year and ‘raped’ her. He filed the case at Lalbagh Police Station on this charge.
According to the Kotwali Police Station, Nazmul Hasan Sohag admitted the student to hospital when she fell ill after the incident. After recovering, the young woman pressured Mamun to get married. Sohag then assured him of his ‘cooperation’ and took him to ‘Chandpur by boat’ via Sadarghat, promising to meet Mamun.
But the student became suspicious because she could not find Mamun in Chandpur. It has been alleged in the case that Sohag ‘raped’ her on the way back from there.
According to the statement, the young woman met with Nurul Haque Nur to seek redress for the incident. Nur initially assured him of a ‘deal’ but later threatened to ‘disgrace him by spreading propaganda forbidding him to go too far’.
Meanwhile, the other three defendants in the case began to spread ‘slander’ against the girl through various social networks.
After the student shelved the case, the Nur-Rashed-led Student Rights Council protested, calling it a ‘conspiracy’. Hasan al-Mamun was also removed from the post of convener of the council.
However, the student filed another case with the Shahbagh Police Station after the cyberbullying continued.
Even after that, none of the defendants were arrested and the student requested the intervention of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in search of justice, claiming that she was being harassed in various ways. He threatened suicide in another way.
