A university student named Rumpa (22) has committed suicide in Pabna. He committed suicide at his brother’s house in Pabna’s Atgharia upazila Dobottar on Monday night (October 26).
Rumpa is the daughter of Farid Uddin Mandal from Babulchara village in the Sahapur junction of Ishwardi upazila. She was a fourth-year student in the Department of English at Dhaka University.
Rumpa visited her brother Wasimul Islam’s home a few days ago. Wasimul Islam is a senior official in a state bank. He lives in a rented house in Dobottar in Atgharia upazila.
According to Rumpa’s relatives, Rumpa used to live in Shamsunnahar Hall at Dhaka University. His father is an employee.
Some, who did not want to be identified, said that he committed suicide out of arrogance when trying to marry another boy, excluding his favorite boy.
Head of DU English Department Prof. Nevin Farida said they found out about the suicide. He commented that the incident was painful for them.

The Officer-in-Charge (CO) of the Atgharia police station, Asif Mohammad Siddique, said police brought the student’s body to the police station on Monday evening. The body was sent to the Pabna General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
The cause of his suicide is unknown. Rumper’s parents said nothing, OC Asif said.
