A Dhaka University (DU) student reportedly committed suicide because he was not getting along with his girlfriend. The student named Touhidul Islam Siam was a third-year student (academic year 2016-17) from the Department of Zoology. He committed suicide at his home in Keraniganj on Sunday (December 26).
The deceased was identified as Siam, son of Rafiqul Islam from the village of Hijla under the Shakta union of Keraniganj upazila. He was at home at the time of the coronavirus epidemic.
It is known that Siam was a student at the Department of Zoology at Dhaka University in the year 2017-18. The home of this student, a resident of the university’s Fazlul Haque Muslim Hall, is in the village of Keraniganj in Dhaka, in Hijla. Abdullah Bayazid Tapu, a classmate of the deceased, said Siam was very calm. We did not understand in any way that he would commit suicide. I saw him active on Facebook last night and this morning he committed suicide. He added that Siam’s mother knocked on the door at noon because she didn’t wake up in the morning and opened the door.
Some of his companions said that he could not imagine such a man could do such a thing. I heard that a few months ago there was a problem with a relationship with a girl. He may have committed suicide by fasting.
