The Vice Chancellor of the University of Dhaka, Prof. Maryland. Akhtaruzzaman said the Deans Committee meeting did not make any decisions or proposals to cancel the ‘C’ unit admission test. The resolution of the meeting indicated that special arrangements should be made for this unit and the Faculty of Fine Arts.
He made the remarks during a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor at his office here on Wednesday (November 11). Members of the IRAB were present at the time led by the organization’s president Sabbir Newaz and Secretary General Shariful Alam Sumon.
The rector of the university said that the issue was in the review of the admission test. Discussions to reduce the unit have been going on since 2016. The type of admissions test for the College of Arts and the College of Social Sciences is almost the same. The deans disagreed on two tests on similar issues. Basically, looking at the big picture, we are moving towards reducing tests to reduce bullying of students.
He said that students have to do separate trainings for admission to different units. You have to come to the capital repeatedly for exams. Both students and parents were harassed. Therefore, in addition to reducing the number of exams, I am also making arrangements to take exams at the departmental level.
“We want to take students to text-based tests and cut down on tests,” he said. Also, unit ‘F’ is a specialized unit. So there must be a separate test. He also mentioned that this is not about cancellation.
