Dr Abdullah Al Mamun, arrested in the murder case of police officer Anisul Karim, has been released on bail from a court. Dhaka Metropolitan Chief Magistrate (CMM) Dhiman Chandra Mandal approved the order on Sunday.
Moniruzzaman Mandal, Deputy Inspector (SI) of the Crime and Information Department of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, confirmed the information at first glance. He said that Dr. Abdullah Al Mamun’s lawyer applied for bail in court today. After the hearing, the court granted him a bail of 5,000 taka.
Abdullah Al Mamun, Registrar of the National Institute of Mental Health and Hospital, was brought to CMM court in Dhaka on Friday after a two-day pre-trial detention and Fatema Akter, one of the owners of Mind Aid and Psychiatry and Addiction in Adabar, she was detained for four days. After the hearing, the court sent them to jail. The court granted Fatema Akter a four-day pre-trial detention on November 15 and Abdullah Al Mamun a two-day pre-trial detention on November 16.
Police officer Anisul Karim was admitted to a private hospital called Mind Aid and Psychiatry and Addiction in Adabar on November 9 for mental problems.
His family alleges that the hospital staff beat him to death shortly after his admission. That video of the beating went viral. Subsequently, several officers and employees of Mind Aid Hospital were arrested.
