Egyptian archaeologists have unearthed dozens of new mummies and 59 sarcophagi. This is the largest archaeological discovery in Egypt so far this year. The media reported on the BBC.

The mummies were excavated from the ancient tomb of Sakkara, south of the Egyptian capital, Cairo.

Egyptian Minister of Tourism and Archeology Khalid al-Anani opened a sarcophagus at an international press conference on Saturday in front of ambassadors from dozens of countries. He said the wonder of ancient Egypt was not over yet, as they had discovered 27 sarcophagi last Friday night. The structure of these 59 coffins is still strong after 2,600 years. The condition of the interior mummy is also good, authorities said.

The Egyptian government says the mummies will be housed in the newly built Grand Egyptian Museum near the Pyramid of Giza.
