Ariful Islam Arif, former vice president of Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur (Berobi) has filed a complaint against nine people, including six professors, for distorting and insulting the design of the national flag on the Great Victory Day.
The complaint was filed at the Tajhat Metropolitan Police Station on Thursday night.
According to the complaint, the red part of the national flag in front of the university’s commemorative plaque on the great Victory Day on December 16 was displayed in a rectangular shape rather than a circle. Also, the flag is lowered and placed under the feet.
The defendants are: Tabiur Rahman Pradhan, Assistant Professor, Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, Parimal Chandra Barman, Head, Department of Bangla, Shamim Hossain, Professor of Geography and Environment, Sohag Ali, Professor of History and Archeology, Assistant Supervisor and Assistant Professor of Marketing. Mahamudul Hasan, Ramprasad Barman of the Department of Sociology, Basak Rahmatullah, Assistant Professor of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, Qayyum, Assistant Professor of the same Department, PS Aminur Rahman. In addition, between 8 and 9 more people were charged without identifying.
It is said in the case that when the fourth defendant published the matter on Facebook, the next day, December 16, everyone noticed. In addition, the defendants have voluntarily violated the rules of the national flag. It is also mentioned that defendant number one has posted a confessional post on his Facebook.
Previously, the Chhatra League and the Mahanagar Juba League organized a procession in the city to protest the incident.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that the university authorities kindly observed the Great Victory Day. There was no lighting on campus to mark the day. The Vice Chancellor of the Prof. University was absent from the campus that day. Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah.
Previously, the administration did not pay tribute to the slaughterhouse under the university even on the day of the intellectual martyrs on December 14. The rector was also absent from campus that day. The Council for the Protection of University Rights protested against these actions.
Tajhat Metropolitan Police Inspector (Investigation) Rabiul Islam said that a complaint had been filed in this regard. The next step will be taken in consultation with higher authorities.
