Two other leaders from the same organization have beaten a BCL leader at Dhaka University for allegedly ‘disrespecting’ him.

The incident took place in front of the Bangabandhu Tower of Dhaka University at around 12:30 pm on Monday.

The person who was beaten was called Falguni Das Tanvi. He is the deputy general secretary of the Rokeya Hall Chhatra League.

The defendants are Benazir Hossain Nishi, Central Joint Secretary General of the Chhatra League of Bangladesh and Jasmine Shanta, General Secretary of Shamsun Nahar Hall.

The victim said Tanvi, BCL leaders Benazir Hossain Nishi and Jasmine Shanta called me around 12pm and asked me to go to Dhaka University Law School. Then when I went there, they interrogated me in different ways. At one point they ran to kill me and I ran away. Then they chased me and caught me in front of the Bangabandhu Tower. Then keep hitting one after another.

“The two guys who were with them at the time surrounded me, so I couldn’t go,” he said. At one point when I fell to the ground, Shanta held my legs tightly. And Nishi started kicking me at random pressing me with one foot. In a moment from my throat, blood came out of my throat. Then the university proctorial team and the police on duty came to rescue me. I take first aid. So far I can’t eat anything hard. They scratched my face. I fell on the road and injured my hands, legs and head.

The victim further said that I had been beaten for the purpose of killing. I have briefed the senior leaders. If you don’t take action, I will take legal action.

When asked about this, BCL Deputy Secretary General Benazir Hossain Nishi said: “The girl was being rude, so we ruled.”

When asked if he could be beaten in public on the street for being rude, he said: “It was a misunderstanding. We fixed it later.”

He remained silent in response to the question of how the aggrieved BCL leader announced that he would file a case if the issue was resolved.

Jasmine called Shanta more than once, but didn’t get the call.

The president of the Chhatra League, Al Nahyan Khan Joy, said: “I have heard such incidents.” But it is really sad for us that such an incident occurs. We will definitely take action after investigating the matter.
