In Magura, a boy drowned in a river with his hands tied to a palm boat. Three days after his disappearance, divers recovered his wounded body from the Nabganga River in the Barashia area of Sadar upazila on Sunday. An uncle of the boy and his son have admitted responsibility after being arrested in the incident.
The seven-year-old boy named Mahid is the son of Mujibur Rahman Mollah from the village of Barashia. He was a student in the local elementary school children’s class.
Aslam Mollah and his son Rohan from the village have testified to the police that the murder was planned after a dispute three years ago. Mahid’s father, Mujibur Rahman, and Aslam are his cousins.
Magura Sadar Police Station OC Joynal Abedin said that three years ago an arbitration meeting was held in the village with Aslam Mollah. Aslam has been at odds with Mujibur ever since. According to the confession of Aslam and his son Rohan, they took Mahid to the local Nabganga river last Wednesday morning for revenge. There he bound his hands with a palm pot and drowned the boy. Mujibur Rahman kept a general diary at the Magura Sadar police station that night without finding Mahid. The following day, Mahid’s grandfather Dulal Hossain was demanded a ransom of Tk 20 lakh on his mobile phone. After informing the police about the matter, the police arrested Rohan on Thursday based on his mobile phone and questioned him. Rohan confessed to the murder and described the incident to the police. He was arrested on Saturday. Later that day, his father Aslam was arrested. According to his statement, the police conducted a search in the Nabganga River from that day with divers from the Khulna Fire Service. Mahid’s body was recovered at 2 p.m. yesterday. The palm boat was rescued.
The OC said Mahid’s body was sent to the Magura Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy. His father has filed a murder case at the Sadar police station.
Visiting Mahid’s home yesterday afternoon, mother Morzina Begum was seen repeatedly fainting while crying over her son’s pain. The same situation occurs with Mahid’s father, Mujibur Rahman. Mahid is the third of the couple’s four children.
Morzina Begum was crying and saying, ‘My Moni Sahal left with a genji. I said calmly, don’t open. I looked in many places but found none. I want the gallows to hang those who have lost their lives in my little hut. What is Tagore’s enmity with the boy Oitukun?
Mujibur Rahman said he was a construction worker by profession. Last Wednesday afternoon, he was informed on his mobile phone from home that Mahid could not be found. After much searching, he did not find it and kept a general diary at the Magura Sadar police station at night. She wept and said: ‘My son loved Rohan like his brother. So Mahid went with him to the river as soon as he called. And that devil is drowning the beast like that. I want to hang Og.
Mujibur Rahman said he learned from the police that when Rohan was tying Mahid’s hand with the boat, he wanted to know: ‘Brother, why are you tying my hand? Rohan said, ‘You can’t swim. So I tie his hands so he doesn’t drown. Saying this, he drowned the boat. Mujibur burst into tears after saying this. He regretted that three years ago, he and Aslam Mollah, a local resident, were summoned to an arbitration meeting in relation to a minor incident involving a woman. At that moment, a man named Nannu from his village slapped Aslam. Then Aslam threatened to take a look at everyone in the meeting, including himself.
