Savar (Dhaka): The Mayor and Municipal Chairman of the Awami League, Golam Kabir, has been nominated by the Awami League in Dhaka’s Dhamrai Township. With this, he will be elected municipal mayor for the second time on behalf of the Awami League.
The selection of the candidates was finalized at a meeting of the party’s Local Government Nominating Board held at the official residence of the Awami League president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Ganobhaban on Saturday (November 26) afternoon. The meeting was chaired by the Chairperson of the Local Government Nominating Board and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. This information has been confirmed in a press release signed last night by the secretary of the Awami League office, Barrister Biplob Barua.
The Electoral Commission announced the calendar on November 22. Then on Friday (November 28), the Central Awami League asked for applications from the party’s nominees. The party’s Dhaka District Awami League Vice Chairman Khandaker Abul Kashem, Upazila Awami League Secretary General Sakhawat Hossain Saku and five other people applied.
According to the schedule announced by the Electoral Commission, the first round of municipal elections will be held on December 28. The last date for submission of forms is December 1, the selection of nominations is December 3, and the last date for withdrawal is December 10. These elections will be held through the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM).
