Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen has said that Dhaka will demand that the newly elected Myanmar government set a date for the repatriation of the Rohingya. Bangladesh’s allies have vowed to increase pressure on Naypyidaw.

Abdul Momen said that Bangladesh’s allies have assured Dhaka that Myanmar’s elections are over. The foreign minister said talks on the repatriation of the Rohingya were closed due to the Kovid-19 epidemic and the Myanmar elections. Dhaka now awaits the formation of a new government in Myanmar. He added that after the new government is fully formed in Myanmar, when other countries recognize this government, Bangladesh will also recognize it.
