19 government universities in the country have established a minimum GPA to apply for the admission test. Adding the results of SSC and HSC, students in the humanities department must have a GPA 7, a GPA 6.5 for the commerce department and students in the science department must have a GPA 8.
Students from the Science, Humanities and Commerce departments will have a separate admissions test based on the HSC curriculum. The decision was made at a meeting of the university rectors on Saturday.
According to the decision, only 19 universities will be used as examination centers. Students who have passed the Upper Secondary and equivalent exams this year and last year may participate in the admission test.
After the meeting held at Jagannath University (JU), Professor Mizanur Rahman, Vice Chancellor of JOB, told The Daily Star: “There will be 100 points in multiple choice questions or in the MCQ system.”
“Each university will be able to set the minimum score required for admission separately in the case of the marks obtained by the candidates in the MCQ exam,” he said.
“There has been talk of conducting the test to reduce the incidence of Covid-19,” he added.
The vice-chancellor of the University of Barisal, Professor Sadequl Arefin, said: “Science students who wish to sit for the entrance exam must have a minimum of 8 by adding the grade point average (GPA) in SSC and HSC or equivalent exams “.
Similarly, Commerce students will need a 6.5 GPA on SSC and HSC or equivalent exams and students in the humanities department will need a minimum GPA of 8 for the exams, he said.
“However, if the GPA on any exam is less than 3, the exam cannot be requested,” he added.
When asked how the results of the SSC and HSC exams would be evaluated in the admissions test, he said: “Colleges will decide whether the results of SSC and HSC will be taken into account in the admissions process.”
In addition, the two rectors also mentioned that it is the university’s decision whether to give admissions a chance a second time.
Previously, on December 1, 19 government universities in the country decided to admit students through a group examination considering the benefits of admissions.
The universities are: Islamic University, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Khulna University, Haji Mohammad Danesh University of Science and Technology, Maulana Bhasani University of Science and Technology, Noakhali University of Science and Technology, Jagannath University, University of Comilla, Universidad Nacional Poeta Kazi Nazrul Islam, Jessore University of Science and Technology, Pabna University of Science and Technology, Begum Rokeya University, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman University of Science and Technology, Barisal University, Rangamati University of Science and Technology, Rabindra University, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Digital University, Sheikh Hasina University and Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnese Mujib University of Science and Technology.
On January 23 of this year, the University Scholarship Commission (UGC) announced a uniform admission test for the 2020-2021 academic year. Later, in February, it was decided that universities would take admissions tests in groups.
However, Dhaka University, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Rajshahi University, Jahangirnagar University and Chittagong University disagreed.
