Deen Islam has issued a statement in court admitting that he killed his brother-in-law and nephew due to a previous feud in Katiadi upazila of Kishoreganj.

Senior Judge Abdun Noor, a judge of the No. 5 Judicial Court of First Instance in Kishoreganj, recorded his statement on Saturday (October 31) afternoon.

In his statement, Deen Islam killed his older brother Asaduzjan Khan, his sister-in-law Parveen Akhter and his nephew Leon by hitting them with a previously planned shovel due to a family dispute over land. He also said that his relatives, including his mother, sister and nephew, aided in the murder.

Kishoreganj (SP) Mashrukur Police Superintendent Rahman Khaled said that Asad’s younger brother Deen Islam confessed to beating him to death with a shovel only with the help of other family members. The preventive detention of the three accused has been requested to find out who else was involved in the incident.

Earlier, Katiadi Police Station Inspector (investigation) Shafiqul Islam introduced Deen Islam and three other defendants in the case along with his mother Kewa Khatun, his sister Nazma Begum and his nephew Al-Amin.

Nazma, Kewa Khatun and Al-Amin have been detained for 10 days for questioning. His preventive detention will be heard in court on Sunday.

Police recovered the bodies of Asaduzzaman Khan, 52, his wife Parveen Akhter, 40, and their young son Leon, 12, from a house in the Jamshait village of Banagram union in Katiadi upazila on Thursday night.

Asad’s son Tofazzal, who was killed in the incident Friday night, brought a case charging nine people, including his uncle, aunt and cousin. Police arrested Assad’s brother, mother, sister and nephew shortly after the incident.
