A fire broke out in a building on Haji Badsha Mia Road in Demra’s Konapara. The fire burned three to nine floors of the building.

The fire was brought under control at around 10:30 p.m. Thursday (Nov. 5) after a 10-hour effort by 16 fire service units. Earlier, the fire started at 4.50pm on Thursday.

Mahfuz Riben, an officer on duty in the control room of the Fire and Civil Defense Service, confirmed the matter.

He said a fire broke out on the Pasha Light descent from Haji Badsha Mia Road in Konapara in the afternoon. Upon receiving the news, 16 fire brigade units were dispatched to the scene.

Mahfuz Riben said 150 members of the fire service and members of the RAB, the police, the Red Crescent and the scouts have volunteered to control the fire.

The director general (DG) of the fire service, Brigadier General Sajjad Hossain, told reporters that almost the entire 10-story building was filled with combustible material. There was no work environment to put out the fire. Just a narrow path. As a result, it took time to control the fire.

According to the fire service, the sixth floor of the building was used as a warehouse for the power lights. That’s where the fire started. However, there is speculation with the electrical short circuit. The fire spread instantly as there was a lot of combustible material.
