The University of Bangladesh Teachers Forum has demanded a quick solution to the salary complexities of private university teachers. The organization says the issue of teachers’ salaries, as well as that of officials and employees, should be considered humanely and not commercially. They await the necessary instructions from the highest level of government to solve the problem.

The University of Bangladesh Teachers Forum said this in a notification sent to the media on Monday. Teachers say that all educational institutions have been closed since March 18 to prevent coronavirus infection. Many private universities have been accused of failing to pay teachers or paying them in part, citing the closure of institutions. The issue of non-payment of wages has been published on social networks, including social networks.

According to the notification, these universities are in financial crisis due to the inability to collect student tuition fees or the admission of new students has been stopped. But the University Grants Commission (UGC) has said that according to the annual financial statements of these universities, these universities have the financial means to pay the salaries and subsidies of teachers, officials, and employees for at least a year.

The notification has been sent by Kamrul Hasan, Chief Coordinator of the University of Bangladesh Teachers Forum and Professor of Physics, University of Dhaka. The statement further stated: “In accordance with Section 9, Section 9 of the Private Universities Act, each university is required to have a reserve fund, which is reserved for the development and spending of such emergency universities.” Therefore, we strongly condemn the exception to the law of private universities in this case.

The Teachers’ Forum called on the Ministry of Education and UGC to resolve the problem quickly in consultation with the Governing Council of the University in question.
