Indian meteorologists warned on Saturday that the cold snap could start soon in the capital Delhi as temperatures continue to drop. That fear came true.
On Sunday, the temperature in Delhi, the capital of India, dropped by nearly two degrees compared to Saturday. The low temperature on Sunday was 7.9 degrees Celsius, according to the Delhi Meteorological Office.
Sunday was the coldest November day in 17 years. For the last three days in a row, the temperature in Delhi has been below 10 degrees Celsius. If it drops to 7.5 degrees Celsius on Saturday, the fear is further reduced.
The country’s meteorologists fear a cold snap as it dropped about 2 degrees on Sunday.
Kuldeep Srivastava, head of the country’s central meteorological office, said cold winds were blowing from the western Himalayas. As a result, the temperature in Delhi drops every day. Even if this situation continues for another day or two, the temperature will rise 2-3 degrees in the next four to five days due to the western storm.
According to a report from the Anandabazar newspaper citing the Department of Meteorology, the daily temperature has been 2-3 degrees below normal until this month, except for November 16. Temperatures are dropping due to clear skies and cold winds from the western Himalayas.
In 2016, the minimum temperature in Delhi was 7.6 degrees Celsius. 10.5 degrees Celsius in 2017. In 2019 it was 11.5 degrees Celsius. This time 8.9 degrees Celsius has already been recorded.
Anandabazar from Kolkata wrote that the cold has yet to be felt in West Bengal, adding that the temperature has not dropped because the sky is cloudy. But as soon as the clouds moved, the cold wind started blowing from this morning. As a result, there is no doubt that Bengal will cool down soon.
