A case has been brought in court against the OC and SI of the Shibganj Police Station for failing to take a case of attempted rape of a housewife in Shibganj of Bogra and send her to court as a sex worker. Chabina Begum, wife of Nur Islam from Jan village in Shibganj upazila, presented the case at the Bogra District Court of Judges and Sessions on Sunday (December 13).

The police officer in charge of Shibganj (OC) SM Badiuzzaman and SI Ratan Kumar have been charged in the case. The court judge took notice of the case and ordered the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Bogra to investigate it with a first-class magistrate.

The case alleges that the plaintiff’s daughter had an affair with university student Ramim Hasan Rimon, son of Abdur Rashid from Fakirpara village in Sihali. As Rimon’s family disagreed, the plaintiff married his daughter elsewhere. Even after the marriage, Rimon continued his relationship with the plaintiff’s daughter over the phone. As her husband was not at home, Rimon entered the home of the applicant’s daughter at noon on 24 November and tried to rape her. Meanwhile, Abul Kashem, a member of Pirob UP, entered the house and arrested Rimon and the plaintiff’s daughter and reported to the police. Later, the Shibganj Police Station OC SM Badiuzzaman and SI Ratan Kumar Roy arrested and took them away. When the police wanted to file an attempted rape case against Rimon, the police did not take it. The two were subsequently charged under Section 290 of the Penal Code and sent to court. Later, the court released them on bail.

The plaintiff alleged that SI Ratan Kumar Roy had tarnished his image by taking his daughter as a sex worker without taking a rape case even after receiving Rs 10,000. For this reason, the people of her in-laws also refuse to accept the girl.

The plaintiff’s lawyer, Abdul Basheed, said allegations of torture have been made under sections 13 and 15 of the Preventing Torture Deaths and Custody Act 2013.
