Peace is finally returning to Ladakh. India and China, two hostile states, agreed on Thursday on a “five-point plan” to ease border tensions in recent months. The foreign ministers of the two countries reached the agreement on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Moscow, Russia.
A joint statement issued by India’s Foreign Ministry on Friday morning said the two ministers had agreed on five plans in “open and constructive” discussions. The two foreign ministers agreed on five issues. These include abiding by all existing border management agreements and protocols, maintaining peace and stability, and refraining from activities that may exacerbate the situation. The two countries also agreed to continue discussions and communication on the issue of the Sino-Indian border through a special envoy.
The statement said: “The two foreign ministers agreed that the current situation in the border area does not benefit either party. That is why they agreed that the border forces on both sides should continue their talks, withdraw the troops quickly, maintain the appropriate distance. and calm tensions. “
The Indian and Chinese armies have clashed on the Ladakh border since May. Meetings at the army level also failed from time to time. Meanwhile, on June 15, the two countries were embroiled in a deadly confrontation with rods and spears. The first goals against each other in 45 years in the Current Line of Control. Then the ministerial level meeting began. First the defense ministers of the two countries sat down, then the two foreign ministers sat down.
After the first round of violence, the foreign ministers of the two neighboring countries spoke by phone about Russia’s intervention. But in the real LoC, the situation becomes more complicated than it used to be. Later, on the sidelines of the SCO summit, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov started a meeting between Indian Foreign Minister S Jayashankar and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
Incidentally, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval held a video conference with Wang in addition to the corps commander level meeting on June 15 after the clash at Galwan Patrol Point 14. After this, along with Galwan, the Chinese army withdrew somewhat from Patrolling Point-15 (Hot Spring) and Patrolling Point-16 (Gogra). The ‘buffer zone’ was created to reduce stress. But for now, the situation in the Pangong area is unlikely to improve, according to New Delhi.
