Decision to cancel Zia title is invalid: Bar Editor

DHAKA: Lawyer Ruhul Quddus Kajal, secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association, described the decision of the National Council of Freedom Fighters (Jamuka) to revoke the title of ‘Bir Uttam’ of the founder and former president of BNP, Ziaur Rahman, as ‘illegal and illegal’.

He made the remarks at a press conference held under the association’s banner at the Shaheed Shafiur Rahman Auditorium on Thursday (February 11).

In a written statement strongly condemning the decision to cancel the title, Ruhul Quddus Kajal said: “The decision to cancel the title of a heroic freedom fighter after 50 years of independence is very disturbing and sad. Ziaur Rahman’s war plan, war strategy, war management and implementation played an important role in the great war of independence in 1971. ‘

Building an armed resistance against Pakistani aggressors and humiliating a heroic freedom fighter who fought on the battlefield by risking his own life goes against the spirit of the war of liberation, independence and patriotism and is a shame to the nation. The National Council of Freedom Fighters (Jamuka) has made this illegal decision outside the law. ‘

Lawyer Ruhul Quddus also hoped that the concerned authorities would reverse the decision.

The decision was made at the 72nd Jamuka meeting on February 9.
