University authorities have recently alleged that Visva-Bharati land has also entered the border of the home of Nobel laureate economist Amartya Sen in Santiniketan ‘Pratichi’. Amartya Sen has dismissed the accusations. Naturally, the debate has begun. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has spoken in favor of Amartya. Meanwhile, prominent people take to the streets on Sunday. This information has been made known by the report of the Calcutta-based newspaper Anandabazar.

Visva-Bharati claims that in the 1940s, Amartya Sen’s father, Ashutosh Sen, rented 125 decimal places of land for 99 years. Amartya Babu’s family home, ‘Pratichi’, was built on this land. The lease of the land was assigned to him in 2006 at the request of Amartya Sen. However, by measuring the land, it can be seen that between the two leased lands, Visva-Bharati’s own 13-decimal-place land has also come within the boundaries of ‘Pratichi’. That is, the amount of land in the “west” is now 136 decimal places. The Vishwabharati authorities further alleged that when Rajatkant Roy was Vice Chancellor, Amartya Babu was briefed on the matter more than once verbally, but did not raise his voice.

But Amartya Sen says: ‘The land on which Visva-Bharati owns our house is on a long-term lease, and it is still too late for that contract to expire. My father bought a little more land, his property information is also duly recorded in Surul Mouza’s official ledger.

On Thursday, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee spoke out against the Visva-Bharati authorities and the ruling party in the Center. He alleged that Manishi, like Amartya Sen, was being targeted for speaking out against the BJP government in the Center. He also apologized to Amartya Sen on behalf of Bengal. The prime minister wrote a letter directly to the Nobel laureate economist on Friday. “Some newcomers to Visva-Bharati have started making outrageous and unsubstantiated accusations about their family’s property,” he said. In this, I am saddened and I fully support the fight they have started against the fanaticism of the majority of the country. The Prime Minister also asked Amartya Sen to treat her as a ‘sister and friend’ in the fight against intolerance and omnipotence.

When asked about the controversy on Friday, Amartya Sen Saf said: “Visva-Bharati has never reported any irregularities in our land.” He will do everything he can about it with the help of the law.

Anandabazar says that Amartya Sen has spoken out against the ideology of the BJP and the Sangha family for a long time. He claimed that the central government wanted to destroy the centuries-old pluralistic ideology in India. This is why the leaders and ministers of the BJP have opened their mouths against him many times in the past. The whistle-blowing in the land of ‘Pratichi’ is said to be a new aspect of that attack.
