Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated a new Dash 8-400 aircraft at Biman Bangladesh Airlines. The imported aircraft has been named ‘Dhruvatara’ with the intention of operating short-haul flights within and outside the country.
Opening the aircraft, the Prime Minister said: “Through the development of the communication system, we want to build a general communication system with our neighboring countries.” “The aircraft that we will inaugurate today will allow us to increase our internal connectivity as well as our connectivity with the countries of Southeast Asia.”
The Prime Minister inaugurated the new plane via video conference from Ganobhaban at 11am today.
Referring to the excellent geographical location of Bangladesh, he said: “If we can increase trade and communication with our neighboring countries, we can improve in all aspects.” We have already taken many steps in that direction. As part of which I am unveiling this new Dash 8-400 aircraft today.
The Prime Minister also mentioned that she named the new aircraft Dhrubatara and named the new aircraft according to the nature and environment of the country, in which she was assisted by her younger sister, Sheikh Rehana.
“We are going to celebrate the centenary of the birth of the father of the nation and in 2021 we will celebrate the golden jubilee of our independence,” he said. Therefore, I have chosen the name Dhruvatara accordingly. My younger sister, Sheikh Rehana, helped me choose the names.
“The coronavirus has turned everything upside down, paralyzed all activities,” he said, adding that “they are forcing us to cut off communication with everyone.” This problem is occurring not only in Bangladesh but all over the world.
He thanked the concerned ministry and Bangladesh Biman for bringing the new plane at this time, calling it a “very brave” step.
The Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Tourism, Mahbub Ali, addressed the function. Members of the Parliamentary Committee of the Ministry in question, the Secretary and senior officials of Bangladesh Biman, and senior military and civilian officials were present on the occasion via video conference from the VIP Lounge of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

In a press release, Biman said that these poles are the first new Dash 8-400 aircraft with the latest technology added to the Biman Bangladesh Airlines fleet.
It is the first of three Dash 8-400 aircraft purchased on a G2G basis between the governments of Bangladesh and Canada. Built by renowned Canadian aircraft manufacturer De Havilland, the 64-seater Dash 8-400 is eco-friendly with state-of-the-art facilities.
With the incorporation of the new aircraft, the total number of existing aircraft in the fleet is 19, of which four are Boeing 8-300ER, four are Boeing 7-8, two are Boeing 7-9, six are Boeing 737 and three They are Dash 8-400.
