The Hefazat-e-Islam conference began at the Hathazari Madrasa in Chittagong on Sunday morning. Organizing Secretary Azizul Haque Islamabadi said the new committee was officially announced in front of journalists at noon.

Azizul Haque, the organizing secretary of the last Hefazat committee, has the same responsibility again. Junaid Babungari was the general secretary of the Shafi Committee and Qasemi was the Nayeb Amir.

Approximately 500 people, including district representatives of the organization, were invited to the Hefazat-e-Islam conference across the country. However, the new committee has been formed by decision of the 15-member shura committee of senior scholars.

The conference was chaired by Naib Amir Nazirhat Al Jamia Al Arabiya Nasirul Islam Madrasa Shura member and Muhtamim Mahibullah Babungari from Fatikchhari Babunagar Madrasa. He is the uncle of Secretary General Junaid Babungari.

Hefazat Amir Shah Ahmad Shafi was the muhtamim or director of Al Jamiatul Ahlia Darul Uloom Moinul Islam Madrasa in Hathazari, where the conference was held. The day before his death, on September 16, he lost control of the madrasah in an internal dispute.

Ahmed Shafi’s followers complained that they were not invited to the Hefazat conference. They claim that the conference has no legitimacy to elect the new leadership of Hefazat-e-Islam.

Hefazat-e-Islam, a non-political Qaumi organization formed by Shafi Hazur, will be handed over to Jamaat-Shibir and BNP through this conference, Shafi’s younger brother-in-law, Mohammad, alleged at a news conference on Saturday. Moin Uddin.

Hefazat-e-Islam emerged in the discussion after the start of the Ganajagaran movement in 2013 demanding maximum punishment for war criminals. Ahmed Shafi was the emir of this organization formed before him.

Due to Shafi’s age, the dispute between his followers and Babungari’s followers over the selection of his successor in Hathazari Madrasa became public this year.

Junaid Babungari, who was the Naib Muhtamim or deputy director of the Madrasa, was one of the main aspirants to the Madrasa. But her conflict with Shafi’s son, Anas Madani, sparked riots at the madrassa.

As a result, Babungari lost the position of deputy director on June 16. Shafi’s supporters survived, but he stayed.

Hundreds of students suddenly began protesting in September when the madrasah reopened after being closed for about six months amid the coronavirus epidemic. In the face of protests, the Madrasa Shura Committee meeting on September 18 removed Anas Madani from all posts, including that of deputy director of Madrasa. And Muhtamim Ahmad Shafi left his post and was admitted to the hospital.

Ahmed Shafi died the next day, September 16, in Dhaka. The presence of the top leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami in his janaza gave rise to new discussions. Junaid Babungari was accused of being associated with Jamaat-e-Islami.

Junaid Babungari returned to Hathazari Madrasa after Shafi’s death; Hefazat supporters are actively involved in the formation of a new leadership.

At a press conference in Nazirhat Madrasa on October 25, Fatikchhari Awami League deputy Najibul Bashar Maizbhandari said he wanted to see Junaid Babungari as Hefazat Amir.

Hifazat leaders, who have been inactive for a long time, recently voiced their opposition to the Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) cartoons in French magazines, run by Junaid Babungari and Qasemi.
