The decision was made at a meeting of the CUET Student Discipline Committee, Prof. Farooq-uz-Zaman said.
If the Student Discipline Committee decides to expel a student, it becomes effective after informing the Academic Committee meeting.
The student who was expelled was named Raihan Roman. He is a student of the Department of Computer Engineering of the University in the academic year 2013-14.
Registrar Farooq-uz-Zaman told bdnews24.com: “It has been alleged that the student insulted Nabi on Facebook. The Student Discipline Committee decided Thursday to temporarily expel him following the allegations.
“An emergency meeting of the CUET academic committee was called on Friday to report the matter.”
According to CUET officials, some CUET students demanded action against Raihan Roman for insulting Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and insulting Islam in some of his Facebook posts.
Following the request, the Student Discipline Committee called a meeting on Thursday and suspended Raihan Roman.
