In an exchange of views with journalists on Friday to highlight the achievements of Dhaka WASA in the past 10 years, he claimed that the government had re-elected him after seeing the achievements of WASA in the past 10 years.
In 2009, Taksim was appointed Managing Director of Dhaka WASA by the Ministry of Local Government. His mandate was subsequently extended five times. His fifth term ended on October 14. Previously, the government appointed him for another three years in the face of criticism.
An order has been presented in the Superior Court challenging his re-election decision, which is dated next Sunday.
Transparency International Bangladesh, TRB has raised questions about the re-election of Taksim A Khan.
At the beginning of the meeting on Friday, Taksim A Khan presented the list of achievements of the last 10 years. He also informed the future plans of WASA. He later answered questions from reporters.
Taksim A Khan said that WASA has achieved a lot in the last ten years. The government also wants achievements, it wants success. That is why he has been re-elected.
“Success has been achieved and that is what the government wants.”
He claims that WASA’s success is being criticized by “a bunch”.
“One of the five challenges of the Dhaka WASA stand-up program is self-interest. Those who cannot do ‘immorality, illegality, corruption or nepotism’ through WASA’s activities are criticizing them.
“The fifth of our five challenges is the Wested Interest Group. There can be such a group everywhere, both inside and outside of us. There are in the government, there are outside the government. Those whose interests are harmed are the ones who criticize this. They also carry out an organized campaign. “
Taksim said: “There is no opacity in the activities of WASA in the last ten years. Good governance has returned to WASA. In the interests of many, it has been difficult.
“When good government is established, what will those who don’t want good government do? When you work against corruption, what will the corrupt do? Their path is to campaign and it would be better if they fired me. If it weren’t for me, the group that might have done something immoral before could do it again. “
Although there was talk of an exchange of views with journalists, journalists who regularly work with service organizations in the capital were not invited.
When asked why, the managing director of WASA said: “This is not supposed to happen. Because everyone has been informed about the matter. If not, I will definitely look into it.”
It was reported at the exchange meeting that despite the daily demand of 250 million liters of water in Dhaka, WASA is producing 265 million liters of water. 33% of the water is supplied from the ground through 60 deep wells and five treatment plants.
Dhaka WASA will collect 80% of water from surface sources by 2024. At present, WASA can treat 20% of Dhaka’s waste. In this case, work is underway to achieve 100% capacity by 2026, the meeting was informed.
