The Dhaka Premier League (DPL) was suspended last May due to coronavirus. Cricket players want to start the DPL season again after this epidemic. However, the Dhaka Metropolis Cricket Committee (CCDM) has expressed concern about the league this season. Dhaka-based club keeper CCDM said it would be difficult to run the league this season if the coronavirus did not improve dramatically in June.
CCDM member secretary Ali Hossain said: “We are generally required to finish the league in any season in July. If we cannot resume the league in June or the first week of July, it will be even more difficult. We do not know when the current situation will improve. We can only wait.
For many players, this league is bread and butter. The cricket players who have been waiting all year for this league are very concerned about its future. In accordance with BCB rules, DPL cricket players must be paid in three installments. Under the rules, players are supposed to get 30 percent of the contract money before or immediately after the start of the league.
Tushar Imran, a senior cricketer who played for Brothers Union this season, said he has not yet received the money for the first half. Imran said: “As far as I know, four or five clubs have not yet given their first part to the players under the contract. I didn’t even get the first money from my club.
Cricket players said that several large clubs, including Abahani Limited, Prime Bank, Prime Doleshwar and Mohammedan, have already paid. BCB has already provided one-time assistance of Rs 30,000 to players. But for those who go all year with the meaning of a season of this DPL, this figure is very small. But if the league can’t restart at the end of the epidemic, the CCDM still doesn’t know what to do.
Ali Hassan said: ‘I don’t know what will happen, even if the league doesn’t start before July, CCDM will sit down with the clubs. After discussions with the clubs, our decision will be sent to the BCB, they will make the final decision.
In such a completely uncertain situation, senior cricketers like Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim have insisted on resuming DPL after the epidemic. Tamim said on Instagram live with Mushfiqur last night: “ Everyone knows how important DPL is to gamers. A round of DPL has already ended. I think if DPL resumes at the end of the epidemic, players will benefit. ”
Tamim believes that most players win from this league. Then the league should start. He said: ‘We know that most players support their families with the profits from this DPL. At the moment his condition is not good at all. So I think it is important to start DPL.
Tamim believes BCB is thinking the same thing: “I think BCB is aware of the plight of the players and understands the importance of DPL.” Since the BCB has not yet announced anything. I think the season will start with DPL.
Mushfiqur shared the same opinion. He said the DPL was also necessary to prepare for international cricket and to support the families of the players. Mushfiqur said: “I don’t think I should be reminded of the importance of DPL. We want DPL to start again after the coronavirus. We know we have a lot of international cricket ahead of us. So we need DPL to prepare for the final challenge.
