Scholars have issued a fatwa declaring that making sculptures of human beings and any other animals is a forbidden and sinful act. They said that the fatwa was issued in the light of the Quran and Hadith. You cannot make sculpture even if it is not for worship. This fatwa was given by 5 scholars. And 95 academics from the country have signed in support of this fatwa. The fatwa was announced at a press conference at the Dhaka Reporters Unit on Thursday and they also called on the government to remove all animal sculptures and statues.
Chief Mufti of Central Darul Ifta Bangladesh Bashundhara Enamul Haque read the fatwa at the press conference. In addition to him, the fatwa was issued jointly by Maulana Muhammad Abdul Malek, Aminut Talim from Markazud Dawa Al Islamia, Maulana Mohiuddin Masum, Chief Mufti of Jamia Subhania, and Maulana Tauhidul Islam, professor from Jamia Rahmania Arabia.
Mufti Enamul Haque said that there is no difference between sculpture and idol of man and any other animal that is prohibited by any law. Even if it is not for the purpose of worship, it is certainly illegitimate and clearly prohibited. By distinguishing between idols and animal sculptures by ignoring the specific rules of Islam, it is a name to say that animal sculptures are valid, to hide the truth and disobey the provisions of the Quran and Sunnah.
