Karnafuli Ship Builders, a Chittagong-based company, has added a state-of-the-art cruise ship for tourists on the St. Martin route from Cox’s Bazar. The modern ship will join tourist transport through the official opening on Sunday. The luxury ship MV Bay-One will begin its journey from the Paienen water bus terminal in Chittagong.

The MV Bay-One is 400 feet long and 55 feet wide, authorities said. Its depth is 5.4 meters. The capacity of the boat is 5019 MT, the boat has a total main engine of 11200 bhp. With which the boat can run at a speed of 24 nautical miles per hour. However, on the San Martín route, you will run at a speed of 18 to 20 nautical miles. The boat is equipped with a fin stabilizer to cope with rough seas.

The ship, built by Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, has around 2,000 seats, including a cabin, a presidential suite, and a general seat. There are restaurants for passengers on board. There are 16 sailors operating the ship. On the other hand, 150 more crew members will be dedicated to passenger service. Officials said there are arrangements to travel comfortably, stay overnight, and serve food of different tastes.

Kamal Uddin Chowdhury, senior executive (administrator) of Karnafuli Ship Builders, said that the name before the ship was ‘Sylvia Maru’. After we bought it, it was called ‘MV Bay One’. The ship will travel along the Cox’s Bazar-Saint Martin river route. This ship has been brought in to provide a luxurious and quality passenger service.

A new jetty was built for the ship at Darianagar on Marine Drive Road in Cox’s Bazar, the official said. That will also be involved in passenger service.

The Minister of State for Maritime Transport, Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, and the Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Tourism, Mahbub Ali, are scheduled to unveil the ship at the opening ceremony in Paienen on Sunday. Guests will be taken to Cox’s Bazar by MV Karnafuli Express on December 21 at 9am.
