Coronavirus businessman MA Hashem dies

His son Shawkat Aziz Russell said he died early Thursday while receiving treatment at the hospital.

The former deputy Hashem was 7 years old.

Hashem was admitted to Evercare Hospital on December 11 after being diagnosed with the Kovid-19 infection. He has been on life support since December 16 when his physical condition deteriorated.

Regarding the janaza, Shawkat Aziz Russell told bdnews24.com, “We are not saying anything special about the janaza because of the cowardly situation. He will be buried in the Banani cemetery.”

Businessman Hashem was elected Member of Parliament for the BNP’s Begumganj constituency in Noakhali in the 2001 national elections.

Although he was later released, he became inactive in politics. He officially announced that he would be leaving BNP in 2016.

Hashem, who started his tobacco business half a century ago, has expanded his business over the past five decades into various sectors, including housing, import-export, particle board, steel, plastics, consumer goods, bank insurance.

Hashem, Chairman of the North South University Trust, was once on the board of directors of Citibank Limited and United Commercial Bank. He also created the Janata Insurance Company.

Partex Group is one of the largest industrial groups in Bangladesh. However, in recent years, Hashem has changed his business empire.

Amber Group was established separately from Partex Group and Partex Star Group. There are more than 60 companies under these groups, which yields to the guys. Hashem’s wife, Sultana Hashem, and their daughters-in-law are also on the board of directors of these companies.

Aziz al-Qaiser, the oldest of Hashem’s five sons, is the vice president of Tito Partex Star Group. He’s the president of Citibank. The second son, Aziz Al Mahmoud Mithu, is the managing director of Partex Star Group and president of IDLC Finance.
