We believe that uncertainty about rapid corona vaccination in Bangladesh will soon be alleviated.
This uncertainty arose in the statement from the Seram Institute, a manufacturing company, about not commercially vaccinating other countries before meeting the demand for vaccines in India.
Several international news agencies and local media outlets in India reported Sunday that they could not export the vaccine at this time, citing Siram’s chief executive.
It is worth mentioning that Beximco Pharma of Bangladesh has an agreement with the Seram Institute of India to obtain this vaccine from Oxford-AstraZeneca. Under the agreement, the vaccine will arrive in the country at the end of this month or early next.
People are anxiously waiting for this tick. Given this situation, the news of that communiqué from the Seram Institute has naturally caused a kind of anguish in the minds of the people of the country.
But the Minister of Health, Zahid Malek, has spoken to us of hope. He said there would be no deviation from the agreement reached with the Seram Institute of India on corona vaccination. Nazmul Hasan Papon, managing director of Beximco Pharma, also said that it would not be a problem for Bangladesh to get vaccinated as the agreement has already been signed. India’s Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Sringla has expressed further hope.
He said that initially there is no problem getting vaccinated in Bangladesh. He said that Bangladesh would get the vaccine produced in India from the beginning. We hope that these statements will be reflected in the prompt vaccination. India is not only Bangladesh’s closest neighbor, but also a friend.
In that case, compatriots think there should be no problem in getting the corona vaccine from the beginning. Furthermore, we believe that Bangladesh should intensify its diplomatic efforts in this regard. Efforts can be made from the highest level of government if necessary.
Nazmul Hasan Papon said that according to the agreement, India and Bangladesh will be vaccinated at the same time. You have to pay for the vaccine before you can get it. 50 lakh vaccines will be administered at the beginning. After that, a total of three million vaccines will be administered every six months at a cost of Rs 50 lakh. Meanwhile, the Corona vaccine purchase project was approved yesterday at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC).
The total cost of purchasing, transporting and storing the vaccine will be Rs 4,314.49 million Tk. It will cost Tk 3,030 crore just to buy the vaccine. This vaccine will be given to people for free.
Experts believe that since the coronavirus vaccine has become urgent in the current situation and there is a kind of competition in the world for its availability, an agreement must be reached to obtain the vaccine from multiple sources. The expectation is that all kinds of uncertainty and confusion about vaccination will end quickly.
