Public health experts believe that the peak of the first wave of corona infection in the country happened last August. They say the rush hour was from May 31 to August 20. At that time, the corona detection rate was at most 20 percent.
Since then, the detection rate has dropped to 9.95 percent in the last 24 hours. However, even after crossing the peak, the first wave of infection continues in the country. The infection could not be controlled, say public health experts. At the same time, they have urged to follow hygiene rules with winter in mind.
This was stated by public health experts in a webinar titled ‘Second wave of coronavirus and what we should do’ on Saturday. The Hunger Project-Bangladesh organizes this virtual seminar.
Nazrul Islam, a member of the National Corona Technical Advisory Committee and former Vice Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), said: “The first patient was found in the country on March 7. The infection rate increased to 12 percent in April. On May 31, the infection rate reached 20 percent. Then, until August 20, the rate was more than 20. On August 21, the infection rate dropped to 16.
Nazrul Islam said: ‘Many people ask when is the peak of infection in the country? The peak was from May 31 to August 20. These two peaks are usually pointed and plateau-shaped. Our country had a plateau-like peak. But now the first wave is not over. The infection is in 10 percent of the houses.
Mujaherul Haque, former consultant for the Southeast Asia region of the World Health Organization, said: But he is moving towards control. People must adhere to health standards.
Local Government Minister Tajul Islam, who was the main guest of the webinar, said: “Corona is new to the world. Countries in the developed world are also struggling to control it. There was nothing wrong with the government’s decision. But success does not exist. The government is working to cope with the changing situation in Corona.
The minister also spoke about the involvement of many, including council members and union presidents, in distributing aid in the Corona crisis. He said: ‘Representatives of some people were involved in these incidents. Of the 72,000 representatives of the people, less than 0.5 percent have been involved in irregularities. Taking action against them has reduced wrongdoing.
Abu Jamil Faisal, a member of the public health advisory committee of the health department, said: “In winter, there is always a cold problem. There is no substitute for everyone to follow hygiene rules to reduce the intensity of the second wave. Violence is rampant in the Corona city area. The Ministry of Local Government is responsible for providing primary health care in urban areas. This work must be coordinated with the Ministry of Health.
Badiul Alam Majumder, Country Director, Hunger Project, also spoke on the occasion. Ruhin Hossain Prince, Leader of the Communist Party of Bangladesh, Jehadul Karim, Former Vice Chancellor of Comilla University, Abul Kalam Azad, Former Secretary, Abdul Latif Mandal and others spoke on the occasion.
