The body of Biswajit Roy Chowdhury (50), who died under suspicion of a crown in Kalia, Narail, was not attended by any of his family members. The son, who was supposed to face his father’s funeral in Hinduism, did not even attend university. Later, under pressure from the Upazila Nirbahi officer, he somehow escaped with fire from a distance. No one in the family or even family members came. Officer Nirupaya Upazila Nirbahi himself, along with some journalists, buried the body. The incident has caused a stir in Narail along with Kalia.
Biswajit Roy Chowdhury is known to be working in a company of security guards in Dhaka. Corona arrived in the village of Chorkhali in Kalia upazila de Narail 3-4 days ago with fever and shortness of breath. He died Saturday night at his town’s house. Upon receiving the news, several policemen, including Upazila Nirbahi (UN) officer Nazmul Huda and Upazila health officer Kajal Mallick, went to his home to collect samples from the deceased.
After collecting the samples at around 10:30 a.m., no one in his family showed up for fear of being asked to bury him. In such a situation, UNO performed the last rites together with local journalists and some others.
Kalia Upazila journalist Fasiyar Rahman said the Upazila Nirbahi officer had asked to bury the bodies of family members. But since none of the family members agreed, some of us received PPE at the request of the UN. After several requests, no one from the family came, so Mr. UNO took the initiative to remove the body in a van and unload the body from the van to the Chorkhali crematorium. After being taken to the crematorium, he faced danger. Despite making several phone calls at the time, Deep Roy, the son of the late Biswajit Roy, a student at Chittagong University, did not want to come, nor did Mohan Roy, the brother of the deceased. At one stage, UNO Nazmul Huda came after the regime in very harsh language. Somehow, a jute stick caught fire in the head, threw it from a distance, and escaped. UNO Nazmul Huda, Dainik Khabar District Correspondent Fasiyar Rahman and the driver of the van and two others completed the funeral at around 12 noon.
Nazmul Huda, ONE from Kalia Upazila, said: “I never thought that I would have to study in such a situation.” No one cooperated in burying the body on suspicion of being infected with a crown. This behavior of a college student at my father’s funeral, the behavior of a brother’s relative has hurt me. With the help of a journalist, I had to exhume the body with my own hands.
