The Titas gas pipe has been found under an extended section of the Baitus Salat Jame mosque in the area of the west floor of Narayanganj Sadar Upazila. To carry out this expansion, the casing of the underground Titas gas transmission pipe was destroyed. As a result, the pipe came into contact with the ground and the gas escaped. 7 holes were also found at that location.
A press conference was held Wednesday night at 8 p.m. after the excavation was completed with workers searching for a possible source of the gas below the ground. Abdul Wahab Talukder, managing director (planning) of the Dhaka office, the coordinator of the Titas investigation committee, said this at the briefing.
He added that Titas Gas would present an investigative report Thursday night into the frozen gas explosion.
Earlier on September 4, at 9:15 pm, locals blamed the Titas Gas Authority for the explosion at the Baitus Salat Jame mosque on the west floor. Apparently Titas exploded due to a gas leak from the gas leak. A five-member investigative committee was subsequently formed on behalf of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited.
The investigation committee began digging with workers to find a possible source of underground gas from the explosion at 9 a.m. Monday. The excavation was officially declared completed at 8pm tonight.
Later in the morning, Abdul Wahab Talukder, managing director (planning) of Titas Gas office in Dhaka, said: ‘The north side of the mosque has been expanded. We had a pipeline on the ground floor at the time of laying the number four column of the mosque while we laid the foundation there. Going to install the foundation column ruined the pipe wrap. Due to the destruction of the envelope, the gas pipe came into contact with the ground and was punctured. So the gas leaked later.
He further said, ‘6 leaks were found under the base of that column. No problem elsewhere. No gas was found inside the mosque after the leak was stopped.
‘This shows that while extending a column, it is going to cement and destroy the envelope of the gas pipe below. Also, the mosque committee has occupied the road and established the foundation, ”he said.
He said the entire mosque was filled with water after digging Wednesday night. However, no gas was found there. Gas was subsequently supplied to the area.
He said there was no approval from Union Parishad, City Corporation or RAJUK to build the mosque. There are two electricity lines in the mosque. One valid one another invalid. The fire broke out when he tried to change another line when the power went out.
He added: “We have already completed the follow-up on the ground. In addition, I spoke with some people, including the chairman of the mosque committee, last night. The work of making a report with your written information is almost finished. The report will be sent on Thursday. at night.
“We also have time tomorrow,” he said, referring to locals who complained that WASA had damaged WASA’s water lines in many places while excavating. If something like that happens somewhere, if locals report or WASA reports, we will repair it.
