Amir from Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh and Darul Uloom Hathazari Director of Education Junaid Babungari condemned the harassment of Hefazat Deputy Secretary General Maulana Mamunul Haque at a resort in Narayanganj.
In an immediate response on Saturday night (April 3), Babungari said: ‘The scholars are the successors of the prophets. The status of a scholar is much higher in the eyes of Allah Almighty. Furthermore, he (Mamunul Haq) is the son of an aristocratic family and Shaykhul Hadith. Insulting a scholar like him is causing bloodshed in the hearts of the scholarly community and the Touhidi people. Such a great slander against him will never be accepted by Alem Samaj and the Touhidi people. It is important to remember that defaming someone is a great crime.
Hefazat Amir accused Mamunul Haque of assaulting him and demanded exemplary punishment for the attackers.
He said: ‘In different video images, compatriots have seen how terrorists attacked after that. The nature of his attack made it look like a premeditated attack. We strongly condemn and protest against this barbaric attack. My demand to the government is to subject the perpetrators to the law and face severe punishment without delay.
